Komla Lawoe is largely a self trained painter. Born 1973, he attended the Armed Forces Secondary School. Form a very young age he enjoyed drawing and after secondary school he realized that art was what he wanted to do. At College he worked part time as a Gallery Assistant at the National Theatre Art Gallery and he was especially inspired by a number of exhibits there.
Lawoe says, “My inspiration comes from God, because on him I depend and with him I do all things. I attain the artistic goals I set to the highest degree through Him. I love to portray the beauty of women. I also like to express my feelings on how women are treated in general. And sometimes I also depict social and political issues.”
