John Chewa comes from a family of artist so naturally he embraced the arts and started sculpting in 1998 in Guruve, Zimbabwe. It was easy for John to start sculpting as he spent time after school helping his brothers with their sculpting work.
Apart from working in Guruve he also worked at the Tengenenge Art Community. After Tengenenge he joined a group of artists along the Airport Road in Harare, Zimbabwe, where he is currently working.
His early works focused on family issues as well as sculpting animals especially rabbits more recently his work has evolved into more abstract forms.
